R and R

Yesterday was quite the adventure and today is a down day to make up for it!  We slept in and took quite a while to get moving.  I eventually swing into my morning routine and Ammar goes in search of espresso. The deal is that I'll text when I'm done with yoga and all that stuff and we'll meet for breakfast.  When I finally text he asks me to bring his sunglasses and when I get downstairs he is waiting for me in the lobby!  That's a lovely surprise, but the bigger surprise is that he's a winner!  He hands me quite a bit of cash (nearly three hundred dollars!) to stash away and we go back to the casino for breakfast.  He places our order and while it is being prepared, I sit and edit photos and enjoy my latte while he racks up enough more points for another meal sometime!  I'm still fascinated by the fact that so far we've had four dinners, two breakfasts, and innumerable beverages (espresso, Turkish tea, latte, wine, water) all for an investment of 100 lari or about thirty dollars! And there's his winnings on top of that!

We finish breakfast and I get a text from Beqa, the owner of the apartment in which we'll be staying in Batumi, asking when we'll arrive.  He's fine with us getting there around nine in the evening, since our bus doesn't get in until eight thirty.  It's good to have made contact!

It's time to get some fresh air and exercise - but not too much!  My gluts still remember those seventy-seven flights of stairs yesterday!  We walk and talk and wander into a little grocery for fruit and a bottle of wine.  Plans for tonight!  And it's back upstairs so I can add the photos to yesterday's blog.  There are too many; but they are down from the many hundred that I had!!

Ammar is taking a nap while I fiddle on my computer and he wakes up just as I'm finishing. Timing is everything!

Before we know it, it's dinner time and it's hard to pass up free food to finish our lazy day of R&R. We see our favorite girl from the front desk standing outside.  She now has a full head of bright red hair and has made a piece of head jewelry to go on top of it.  It's hard to describe, but it's chains that encircle and crisss crosss her head, with charms dangling here and there! She's just so darn cute!!

When we come home we spend some time exploring trains and busses from Batumi to Kutaisi and from Kutaisi back to Tbilisi.  Looks like going early to the bus station on Thursday is the safest bet. We can get straight answers there.  That's enough for tonight!!

 Sunday, July 31, 2022 Another sleep-in morning!  I love these!  Eventually we get our outside thoughts together and take a cab to the Wyndham.  We don't want to be all sweaty for our massages!  We are nice and early and go to the cave to play enough to feel justified eating our free breakfast.  It's so much better than I expected! And I'm starting to understand how the game is played (both meanings!)  And Ammar is a winner again! Such interesting stuff to see! Real vegetables on the buffet! The ladies who work in the spa are marvelous!  I really feel pampered and after yesterday's walk I can sure use this.  Ammar's masseuse was a physiotherapist in Ukraine!  She spots all the bad places in his back and neck and actually makes him feel better!  The last lady was afraid to touch his back!  We're going back tomorrow.  I'm just indulging myself; but he really needs the professional care. Oooof!

 Saturday, August 6, 2022 I really wanted to sleep in this morning;  I sure could have used it!  Stupid body clock doesn't have a reset button!  Ammar was up early, too, and we decided to do a little walkabout in the quiet of Borjomi before breakfast.  There was no one on the streets! The loudest noise was the rushing river, which we can hear from our room. Yesterday when Ammar was cruising the city he found an interesting building he wants to show me.  It is quite cool and is being renovated.  There is so much new building and building preservation going on all over the country, even large highway projects.                                                                     See (hear?) how loud this is! Sigh...last days

 Thursday, August 11, 2022 Okay, this is kind of a place holder!!  I'll write about today;  but right now I'm going to join Ammar for dinner before the taxi whisks me away at 1:30 a.m.  Sure wish these flights left at a civilized hour!! So - Thursday:  I've got a little shopping to do, so after breakfast we decide to walk to the Old City instead of taking a cab.  We need the exercise and we always talk more easily walking than in a taxi.  I know what I want and Ammar says he knows where to get it.  And he's right;  I should never argue!  last latte!
